GOWIND
National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) [Planning Phase]
Center for Grid Enhancing Technologies for Offshore Wind Transmission and Integration (GOWIND)
Joint effort by New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Rowan University
What is the NSF IUCRC Program?
The NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers (IUCRC) program enables pre-competitive, use-inspired research that is collaboratively developed and funded by industry, government, and academia. Through a shared governance model, IUCRCs foster long-term partnerships and accelerate innovation by connecting university research capabilities with real-world industry needs.
Key Features of NSF IUCRCs:
Industry-driven research agenda: Defined and voted on by member companies.
Shared intellectual property (IP): IUCRCs operate under a well-established IP framework that supports joint development and dissemination.
Financial model: Industry membership fees are matched by NSF to fund center operations and technical projects.
Governance: Centers are managed by a leadership team and an Industry Advisory Board composed of member organizations.

What is GOWIND?
The Center for Grid Enhancing Technologies for Offshore Wind Transmission and Integration (GOWIND) is a proposed NSF IUCRC center led by New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Rowan University, currently in the NSF Planning Phase.
GOWIND brings together academia, industry, and government stakeholders to tackle key challenges in modernizing our grid infrastructure, enhancing offshore wind integration, and expanding grid capacity using advanced technologies.
Our Mission & Goals
GOWIND's mission is to advance the resilience, capacity, and intelligence of the transmission grid to meet the demands of the offshore wind revolution and renewable energy future.
We aim to:
-
